Scanning Code of Practice
What happens if one of my products scans at the wrong price?
Barossa Fresh follow the Australian Retailers Association Scanning Code of Practice to ensure pricing accuracy at our registers.
A scanning error can occur if an item has been scanned, and a price higher than the advertised or ticketed price displays at the checkout or on the receipt.
A scanning error can also occur when the correct product code is entered, and a price higher than the advertised or ticketed price displays at the checkout or on the receipt.
Please note :
-
the transaction does not need to be complete for the Code of Practice to come into play.
-
If the product in question is a Member’s special, a customer’s membership card must be scanned before the Scanning Code of Practice can be considered.
The code of practice states :
If a product scans higher than the price advertised or ticketed shelf price for an item, the customer is entitled to the product for free.
If multiple identical items scan higher than the price advertised or ticketed shelf price, the customer is entitled to the first product for free, then the rest at the advertised or ticketed price.
If a multi-buy promotion scans higher than the price advertised or ticketed shelf price, the customer is entitled to the first product for free, then the rest at the correct promotional price.
Eg 2 for $3
If this promotion scans incorrectly, the customer would get 1 product for free and pay $1.50 for the second product.
The Australian Retailers Association Scanning Code of Practice does not include :
-
Items without a barcode or PLU number
-
3rd Party Gift Cards or Recharge Vouchers
-
Tobacco Products
-
Items with a shelf price over $20.00
-
When the wrong PLU number is entered by the operator.
